Niall Murphy is a screenwriter and producer based in Ireland, writing returnable series and features for television and film, alone and with co-writers. His slate runs from crime and financial thrillers to folk horror, comedy and second-chance romance, with a particular line in Ireland–Canada and Ireland–Australia co-productions.

He came to writing the long way round. Trained in law and accounting, he spent over a decade in international financial fund services before moving into film, and served as Head of Business and Legal Affairs at Treasure Entertainment and ShinAwiL. He now runs Scannain Media Consultancy, advising producers across the Irish industry, and is the founder and Managing Editor of Scannain, the Irish film website he started in 2010.

Niall sits on the Screen Producers Ireland GEDI (Gender, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) committee. He is a member of the Writers Guild of Ireland, a board member of Raising Films Ireland, which supports parents and carers working in the screen sector, and a board member of Young Irish Film Makers. Inclusion, opportunities for marginalised communities and the link between education and the industry are central to the work he takes on.
