After gaining a double-first in law from Cambridge, Paul squandered it by leaving his law firm after six months to work as an award-winning copywriter and creative director in several top ten London ad agencies, one of which still exists.

When puberty hit he left advertising to create primetime comedy for BBC1: the classic May to December starring Anton Rodgers, (6 seasons – BAFTA nomination best comedy), So Haunt Me (3 seasons – best Jewish-mother-ghost comedy) and My Hero starring Ardal O’Hanlon as Thermoman/George Sunday (6 seasons – best residuals). All shown in the US and over 70 countries. Even today in Slovenia.

Paul’s acclaimed ITV/Clerkenwell drama Losing It, starring Martin Clunes as an adman who discovers he has testicular cancer, was shortlisted for several Best Writing Awards. (‘unpredictable and daring’ Time Out. ‘Vastly superior…witty…touching’ Sunday Telegraph.)

With Paul Alexander he created Dreamworks Animation’s Annie-nominated series Neighbors From Hell, starring Steve Coogan as Satan, broadcast on the TBS Channel in the US.

Paul has several features in development, including an adaptation of his much-repeated radio play A Meeting in Seville. With Paul Alexander he wrote Zenda and Powercut (optioned by The Film Factory). He is also developing rom-com movie MUST HAVE GSOH.

Paul is the only screenwriter to have had six semi-finalists simultaneously in a Top Ten US competition. (The Screencraft Comedy Script contest). One of these made the Final cut.

For BBC Radio 4 he has written six original plays, the comedy series Snap (‘bittersweet and very funny’ The Times) and adapted six Chief Inspector Dover novels, now being developed for TV. In 2014 he dramatised CS Forester’s classic London Noir trilogy, starring Greg Wise and Sophie Thomson (‘Chillingly well-written crime stories’ Daily Mail). Most recently he dramatised ‘The African Queen’ with Toby Jones and Samantha Bond (‘script deft, acting superb, production a delight’ – Gillian Reynolds, Telegraph).

His first novel for grown-ups, In the Matter of Isabel, was published in June 2017 by The Book Guild (‘wonderfully funny’ – The Independent) and many novels have followed, including his children’s novels Losing Arthur and The Funnies.
